Start to celebrate a little – we’re two steps away from completing step 3! And this easy step only involves purchasing a new domain.

Have you completed video 4 of step 1? If you have, you would’ve known what you want to call your store name and checked its availability on Namecheap. This will come in handy for this step since we’re going to purchase it this time. (Note: You’ll want to purchase a .com domain – NOT a .net or .org)

There are loads of sites where you can buy a domain like GoDaddy and Namecheap. The only downfall is having to connect the server of your domain to your hosting on Shopify.

We want to make this step as “tech-free” as possible, so we’ll pick the easier option of buying a domain through Shopify, since it doesn’t require any configuration.

As part of the process, I’ll also walk you through how to verify your email address – our next step after we’ve purchased a domain.

How to buy a domain name

1. Click Online Store.

2. Click Domains.

3. Next, click Buy new domain.

4. Type your domain name into the box.

5. Click Buy next to the .com one.

6. On the next page, scroll down and click buy domain.

7. Head over to your email (the same email you used to register your domain), and find an email from Shopify titled “VERIFICATION REQUIRED – Please verify your domain name(s) as soon as possible”.

8. Open the email and click the confirmation link.

9. On the next page click the Verify Information button.

And that’s it! You’ve successfully added a domain to your store. In the last step, you’ll learn how to remove your store’s password.
